Education Standards Conclusion

Government information and technology-related standards and frameworks summary as to how these apply (or don’t apply) across the primary, secondary, and tertiary education sectors. Note that “standards” here includes both technology infrastructure & digital policy standards and education curriculum/qualification standards related to IT and digital technologies.

NZ Government Digital Standards

The Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) publishes standards and guidance to ensure digital services are secure, usable and accessible:

Web Accessibility Standard 1.2 & Web Usability Standard 1.4 — require government digital content and services to meet accessibility and usability criteria (e.g., aligning with WCAG 2.2). These are mandatory for core public services from 17 March 2025.

Digital Service Design Standard — guides user-centric design and delivery of digital services, Standards & guidance.

Technology & Architecture Guidance — includes enterprise architecture, cloud and cybersecurity guidance
